This is Brian Biddiscombe. Brian is one of my favorite people to receive random phone calls from, he is intentional and always has the best ideas, and he makes everyone in a room feel welcome!
Something that came to me yesterday was this:
“Only God is in the miraculous, yet God is not only found in the miraculous.”
And what I mean by that is we want God to be seen, heard, and felt, which is amazing– keep striving for that and praying for his voice. But God isn’t only the obviously spiritual. We can see a healing and be confident it was God, but God is also present as we make a PB&J or play cards. In the Hebrew language there isn’t a word for “spiritual.” They didn’t need one. Because for them, there wasn’t anything outside of God’s presence or blessing. And all of that can sound very magical and pleasant, but the harder pill to swallow is that we won’t have clear signs of him all the time. And that can feel lonely, and it has for me at times. But you can remind yourself of a few things. That Jesus himself had 30 years on earth that are almost entirely undocumented. In other words, he was living an ordinary life, and in that was the foundation for his ministry. It was valuable kingdom building time. Secondly, God chose to speak to Elijah through a whisper. The wind, tornado, and fire he sent were much more miraculous, but God wasn’t there to impress him, but to speak into his life. So listen for the whispers, and if all that come up are thoughts and worries about your day or your week, then talk to God about those, because he is in those very things as well. Nothing is too small for our God.
