Matt Busse

Matt was one of the first people I met at UGA – thank goodness for Jim and that I chose to sit behind him in our Spanish class that day, because it has led to one of my weirdest and most favorite friendships! Matt is joyful and he is a protector of his people at heart. He is the definition of bold in his faith to me, and I always feel such a spirit of laughter and comfort whenever I am around him!

Why is Nature so beautiful?
I’m sitting by a window seeing rain hit my roof and the sun peaking through the clouds and I question what it is about nature that makes it so beautiful. Even more so in a time where people are going outside more than ever, whether that’s because they have extra free time or because they aren’t supposed to, we as people are experiencing the fascinating world around us. It’s grand beyond comprehension, with mountains you can’t breathe on top of and trenches that would crush you under its pressure. It’s extreme, with the highest recorded temperature reaching 134°F and lowest dropping to -128°F, with animals that can swallow you whole. It’s mysterious, with balls of lightning and only one animal that truly produces the pigment blue. It’s detailed, with chemical reactions happening in innumerable quantities and Microsystems that can’t be observed with the human eye. And of course its beauty, with fields to have picnics, creeks to read a book beside, lakes to go skinny dipping, rock faces to climb, mountains to summit, trees to swing from, forests to explore in, cliffs to dive off, animals to name, flowers to smell, and sunsets to enjoy. Whether you believe this or not I see God in it all. With all of its grandness, extremes, mystery, detail, and beauty I believe it is all due to the creative power of God and that people enjoy nature so much because for this very reason. Nature is the largest and most obvious testament to God and his creation, so next time you step outside, remember this and the blessing it is to live in it.
