Sarabeth McClure

Sarabeth is hilarious. I don’t use that word lightly- she actually has our entire Jamaica team on the floor laughing on the regular (she sent us breakdancing videos. I mean, come on). Sarabeth brings an insane amount of light and joy to any conversation she’s in- her presence is so valuable and it is so evident how much she cares for her people. Watching the way she lives has had an impact on my life, and I am awaiting the day we get to live in the same city again.

This time is a time of uncertainty. Of waiting. And it even could be of darkness or isolation. As people, we have the instinct to be social, and that instinct has to be put on hold. How can we respond? Go for a run, find some new music, make something new. During this time of silence, I’m trying to consistently read my Bible. This tragic and frightening epidemic has actually given us an amazing opportunity: be still. Be still and listen to what God has to say. Normally, we’re too wrapped up in everyday happenings to take a second, and now, we have nothing but seconds. On my first attempt of trying to be still, something I’ve struggled with my whole life, I found myself reading Psalm 8. Verses 5-6 say, “You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet.” God made us a little lower than angels. A little! He loves us so much that He would’ve put us in heaven with Him if He could have. Knowing this, we have to take the utmost precaution in how we live these next couple of months. We know God loves us so much, and we need to love like He does in this time. Love others from afar, because our older populations are so susceptible to this awful disease. Send letters, FaceTime, do whatever you need to do to stay connected, but protect others around you! Try putting yourself last during this time. Live like Jesus would! Never give up and take the time to be still during your day. Our God is much bigger than this epidemic!
