This is Malaya. When I was thinking about how to describe Malaya I kept thinking about a waterfall: the perfect combination of fun and refreshing. Malaya raises the energy level of any room she’s in. She has this beautiful joy that naturally brings out joy from everyone she’s around. But at the same time, Malaya also genuinely wants to get to know those around her. I’ve never walked away from a conversation with her without feeling so full. She is a world-changer, for sure.
Embrace who you are. Be who God made you to be. Coming into college, I thought I knew who I was. However, once I started surrounding myself with so many incredible people, I felt like I lost who I was because I thought they did certain things better than me. I thought they filled certain roles better than I did. I thought they embodied certain characteristics better than I did. Things, roles, and characteristics that I thought I had always ‘been known for’ in the past. I let this consume me and I lost myself to comparison, to feeling average, and to a boatload of insecurities. This year, more than ever, I feel like I have embraced who I am. Who I truly am. Who the Maker of heaven and earth made me to be. Not trying to be someone else. Not trying to be better than others in different areas or attributes. God created us all to be unique and different in our own special ways and we gotta embrace that! We all have important and valuable things to bring to the table. Shine your one-of-a-kind light on the world! Lean into those unique and special gifts that God has given you! I am still working and growing when it comes to comparison, fears, and insecurities, but I have learned that once you embrace who you authentically are, you can connect to God, yourself, and others in extraordinary ways!
