For a long time people kept telling me I needed to be friends with Berkeley, and now I see why! Her presence is so valuable and getting to watch her lead up-close this past week in Jamaica was such a treat! She loves in such a unique way that makes others feel cared for, and she is so wise!
With everything going on with the corona virus, there are two different things people will be struggling with: fear and disappointment. With all the change going on, a lot of people are saying a lot about bringing your fears to God, but the disappointment aspect is being really overlooked. We all had expectations about what we wanted the rest of the semester to look like and those plans got ripped away from us. Trusting God’s plan for your life is equally as important as trusting that God will take care of you. This wasn’t a surprise to God, this wasn’t plan B for your life. He has you where you are right now for a reason. This isn’t wasted time. Ask Him to show you what His plans are for you.
Along with this, a lot of people are struggling to acknowledge their feelings of fear or disappointment. A lot of people feel like they can’t bring their negative emotions to God because they’re not “supposed to” feel that way: no. It’s natural for us to feel fear and disappointment because we’re human. We’re supposed to bring it to God because
1.) He already knows what we’re feeling and He doesn’t want us to lie to Him or hide part of ourselves from Him
2.) He’s the one who helps us work through these emotions and let them go.
Romans 12:2 says “do not be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Be transformed, not “transform yourself.” We put so much pressure on ourselves to feel the right way before we believe what’s true about God. You can trust in God’s goodness in the midst of your doubtful emotions. Trusting in it before you believe it is what helps you get to a place where you do fully believe it.
