This is Zoe Albury.
Zoe and I bonded because she lovingly welcomed me into her life of serving the homeless community of Athens. She showed me firsthand the amount of disparity present in this community, and watching her love and bridge the gap between the homeless community and college students is a beautiful picture. Zoe is one of the most humble and compassionate people I know; she desires real, authentic relationships, and that is so clear in the way she lives on the daily. Zo you are such an inspiration!
I’ve been learning that humility is a gift that God gives us, not a goal to reach or something we can just improve ourselves. When we believe God is the Creator and we are His creation, we won’t go about our lives thinking we deserve anything, really. Everything we have, our homes and friendships and our waking up every morning, is a gift from our Creator that He deserves all the glory for! One way someone showed me to practice humility and see myself rightly as God’s creation is to get on my knees every morning and say to God “You are God and I am not” a few times. This has really changed how I go about my day – seeing God’s grace in everything around me, rather than thinking I deserve better or have earned anything more than what I’ve been given. We’ll never be “good” at humility but we have a God who is!
