Mary Holden

This is Mary Holden.
Mary is a soul sister. She is wise, she loves the Lord openly and unashamedly, and has been an inspiration to me since the very beginning! Mary is the embodiment of consistency and compassion in my life, and I care for her and the ways the Lord is moving within her so deeply! She answered my call for wise words with four categories, and I couldn’t ask for anything better!

What I’ve learned time and time again is that letting go doesn’t mean you’re losing. So often, we have such a tight grip on things in our life because we want control and we are afraid if we open our hands that God is going to steal what’s in our hand. Our God isn’t a God who steals though. That’s not his character. You also aren’t holding a balloon in your hand. When He asks you to surrender control, He’s just asking for you to open your hands. What’s in your hand won’t always float away like a balloon. Sometimes all He wants is for you to loosen your grip enough so He can make something more of what you’re holding onto. We don’t serve a God who lives to steal. We serve a God who desires to be invited in so He can fulfill the desires of your heart and make immeasurably more.
Secondly, we know absolutely nothing and it’s so much better that way! God is full of surprises and ultimately the control we think we have is actually His. He can and will do whatever He desires, but it’s so much better than you can imagine. Not knowing can be scary and it’s often not a likable feeling, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have peace in the middle of unknowns. I think that’s one of the sweetest things. In the midst of unknowns and trusting God, you can have peace because He knows. He will never leave or lead you astray and He will make everything greater than your wildest dreams. Your peace doesn’t have to be determined by your circumstances. We serve a sovereign God.
Third, the most humble thing you can do is love yourself. I know, it sounds contradictory, but if you think about it, it’s true. One of the wisest people in my life told me this. By loving ourselves, we are agreeing that God made a good and right thing. Agreeing with God is humbling yourself enough to tell Him that He is right.
Fourth, weak love is still real love. If your love feels weak, that’s okay. That doesn’t make it insignificant or fake. It is still real. It’s the most real to you, to others, and to God, even when it’s weak. You are still trying and still seeking to show love. It being weak doesn’t negate it being real.”
